Born 1952 in Bolzano, Italy. studies under Oskar Kokoschka at the Salzburg Academy. architectural doctorate in Florence in 1975 with Adolfo Natalini. moves to milan in 1978, makes the acquaintance of Ettore Sottsass and starts working in his studio. Co-founding member in 1981 of Memphis Group, the design movement that so shaped events in the Eighties. The Vienna academy for Applied Arts appoints him to the Chair of Product Design and Ceramics in 1982. Terminates his work with Memphis and founds his own Studio Matteo Thun in Milan in 1984. awarded three times the Compasso d’Oro for good design. Creative director from 1990 until 1993 for Swatch. Since then, Matteo Thun tries to offer a complete service to his international clients developing projects covering different fields such as architecture, design and communication. Matteo Thun Studio includes a team of 40 professionals, graphic designers, product designers and architects, invested in a continuous interdisciplinary challenge, which is the successful formula of the “big family” of Via Appiani. Matteo Thun lives with his wife Susanne and two children in Milan.
